***All of the birds on this page are birds

we have taken in and re-homed.

They are NOT available for adoption. They

have their forever homes and are well

cared for.***

We began bird rescue when we saved our first cockatiel from the humane society of St. Joe County. She was a normal grey but we fell in love instantly. She was beautiful, came with cage and was vicious. We took her home and worked with her for the longest time. She eventually sat on our finger, ate treats from our hands and would ride on our shoulder. Her name was Lucy. She was our sweetheart and we loved her with every fiber of our bodies. She passed on of old age and we buried her in the back yard. We still have the gravemarker where she lies.

We then went on to take in other birds. Some intentionally and some because we were asked to.

Sometimes we grew to attatched to a bird to let them go. So we kept them as a family pet. But for the most part, we found loving homes for each and every bird that comes thru our home.

Our hearts get involved, intwined and even broke at times. Sometimes there are birds you just can not help. Sometimes the situations you see are heart wrenching and make you cringe. Sometimes you wonder why people are parting with the bird. Sometimes you think - Why does this bird have to suffer so? Yet each and every time, we step up and help out the bird(s) in need and we make sure they get the care they need and deserve.

Once in a while you get a bird that is just to hurt to re-home or just to old to re-home. Sometimes you just need them to go where they can remain for their remaining lifetime without pain, suffering or cruelty. That has been the case with a few birds. Lucky was our first case of abuse - and it shocked us to see how cruel the world can be. We took him in and were shocked at the amount of damage done to this poor innocent creature. He was beaten with a baseball bat by one of his previous owners. His wounds were so bad that the vet we have could do nothing for him. He was re-homed to a man who had all day to spend with him and nothing better to do then love him. To this day he is still with his new owner and becoming a more loving bird and very trusting of the man who has taken the time to teach Lucky what love really is.   Pic below of Lucky.

Remember how I said sometimes you wonder how people could give up a bird and it lies in the back of your mind their reasons? Papoo was one of those birds. I wondered why someone would hand over such a loving, friendly bird that as in such good shape. But yet her owner had her reasons - I am not there to judge - Just to help out. Papoo was our Angel of birds. She was beautiful - until a mishap happened. Picture below.

We let a local family foster Papoo. She was happy there and doing well. We were monitoring this family and Papoo. One day we went to do a regular home visit and the bird, along with cage, toys and accessories was gone. We found out she had sold her to someone unauthorized. It was a great loss to everyone involved. Trust me - steps were taken to prosecute and also to prevent this from happening again.

Rehabilitation:

Sometimes things go wrong. . . and your bird may not need to be relinquished but rather rehabilitated or re-trained. We can do that also.

We will work with you and help your bird to be the best pet bird. Sometimes birds can be re-trained in their ways but alot of it will depend on how quickly you seek help for your feathered friend.

Birds We Take In:

We normally take in any domestic bird, however, we are currently only accepting cockatiels, parakeets, finches and the smaller birds,  as we are waiting for our new large parrot cages to come in.

We are very sorry but we Do Not Take in geese, emus, or other birds of wild origin. We do take in ducks if they are domesticated farm pets but not if they normally live outside.

Donations

We currently have a free website and that is wonderful, but the birds we care for each and every day are not free. The food, cages, vet care, toys and more cost us every bit of $900.00 a week.

We do this because we love the birds we take in and our love of animals is absolutely endless. We really rely on the kindness of others to help us out by donating cages, toys, food, accessories, and their time.

We currently are in need of some cages for our cockatiels that are not in such rugged shape. If you can build cages or can donate a cage you no longer use it would be put to wonderful use.

If you have bird toys or other items that we could use for the birds we care for it would be wonderful if you could donate them.

Most of all we ask that people donate their time to help rehabilitate the birds we care for. We need people with ecperience in handling the birds we currently have and can help with training, vet appointments and more.
